Arrival in Guatemala

The plane ride down was more smooth than the bus ride to Atlanta we have ate well and too much junk. As a result Morgan threw up 4 times on the plane. He just ate too rich of foods. On the good side he and Susie got bumped to first class for the flight!

We went ok through customs ok except for Josh and Emily. They found some expired medicines in her bag. Not good for someone who declared to be a nurse, but they finally let them go. The Parkers met us and I was so glad to see someone I knew because I can already feel the language barrier. Doesn't make me comfortable.

As soon as we were out I noticed a smell in the air. Sort of like trash. It is everywhere so far. Sort of makes my stomach weak.

We stopped to eat at Wendys on the bus ride to the mission house. There seemed to be a good deal of USA influenced fast food restaurants here, at least in the rich part of Guatemala City. McDonald, KFC, taco bell.

At Wendys I had to have Kati order for me. They had all the normal items with the addition of fried chicken. Kati said the ice at these fast food chains was safe. So I had kids chicken nuggets meal and a frosty.

I ate with Kati and her guatemala brothers. Kati got up one time to get something and came back with a little boy about 7 years old. I thought he was a friend but found out he was begging for food from some of our team.
He was dirty and not well kept, and had an odor about him. Good thing I was full and didn't want any more to eat. I didn't finish my Frosty so Katie gave it to him. I asked to get another spoon but she said not to worry, and he began to devour the frosty like it was a Christmas gift.

He and Kati exchanged conversation. She told me his mother was a prostitute, he had 6 brother and sisters, and they lived on the street.

The sites on the ride to the mission house were something. Saw a brand new walmart and trash on the streets. Quite a contrast.
